New York Style Pizza

The most popular downtown Nanaimo pizza and pasta place has to be New York Style Pizza and Pasta (tel. 250/754-0111), 299 Wallace Street, Old City Quarter. It’s just a few minutes walk from the Painted Turtle Guesthouse, Coast Bastion Inn, Best Western Dorchester, and other downtown lodgings via the Bastion Street Bridge. You’ll enjoy live music with your dinner Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 1800-2100.

Pizzas such as the New Yorker pictured here are $15/19/23 small/medium/large, and the ingredients are so generous that even a small pizza can be enough for two people. New York Style’s 13 pasta dishes range from spaghetti marinara ($11) to prawn linguine ($16). You can also get ribs, chicken, and halibut here. From Friday to Sunday, try the “NY Full Meal Deal” ($11) which is spaghetti with meat or tomato sauce, a Manhattan salad, garlic toast, and ice cream or a Nanaimo bar for dessert.

If you’ve got extra space in your freezer, consider stocking up on healthy “Express Meals” to go at $6 apiece. There’s a good choice of frozen meat and pasta dishes, all served with mixed vegetables and dessert. You must pre-order about a week in advance by calling tel. 250/754-0112 weekdays from 11 am and 8:30 pm. A minimum of 10 meals must be pre-ordered each time. You can pick your order up at their Wallace Street location, or at #12 – 1273 Island Highway South, South Parkway Plaza, Chase River (otherwise delivery charges apply). Otherwise, just drop in and ask to see what’s in the freezers.
