Jakeobs Ice Cream Nanaimo
Summer is here and Jakeob’s Ice Cream is again open for business daily from noon to 9 pm between now and the end of September. It’s at 306 Fitzwilliam Street beside New York Style Pizza in Nanaimo’s Old City Quarter. From downtown, cross the Bastion Street Bridge and it’s on the right just past the lights. The 1950s diner decor is fun, but you come for the ice cream. Jakeob’s offers a choice of 30 flavours with a one-scoop cone costing $3 or $4 for two scoops. Add a dollar for gelato and another 50 cents for a sugar cone. If you brought the little ones along, it’s only $2 for a kids cone.
The menu also includes ice cream sundaes ($4.75), milkshakes ($4), floats ($4), and banana splits ($5.75). For something different try a banana dipped in chocolate, rolled in peanuts, and frozen ($3). The Canadian sundae with real maple syrup ($7.95) is the ultimate indulgence. A perfect treat for someone sweet!
UPDATE: Unfortunately, the girls scooping out the ice cream cones at Jakeob’s this year aren't as generous as those who served in 2007. Our cones were rather small last visit and we won't be returning this summer. (June 28, 2008)
