Longwood Brewpub Nanaimo Canada
The Longwood Brewpub at Longwood Station in North Nanaimo is the city’s only in-house brew pub. It’s rather upscale with a laidback but luxurious restaurant upstairs and a buzzing bar below. If you come for the beer, you won’t be disappointed as the selection is about the best in town. Beers like Dunkelweizenbrau, a dark wheat beer, and Russian Imperial Stout, a 7.5 percent alcohol brew, will awaken the taste buds of the most jaded connoisseur. Prices are reasonable at $3.30 for a 12-ounce glass or $5.45 for 20 ounces. The Longwood Brewpub also caters to beer tasters with six-ounce glasses at $1.65, allowing you to sample several items without getting totally smashed. The brewpub’s restaurant menu is not overpriced with salads ($9-12), starters ($9-11), burgers, sandwiches, and wraps ($10-13), entrees ($19-27), and pastas ($8-17). The Thai curries with coconut sauce on basmati rice go for $8-15 small or $12-19 regular. Greek salad with feta cheese and olives makes a nice lunch at $10, and hungry beer drinkers can order nachos grande at $10/14 half/full. Other interesting selections include wild salmon burgers ($11), halibut and chips ($9/13 with one/two pieces), quesadillas ($9-11), and 10-ounce New York steak ($27).
Aside from the designer beers brewed in the gleaming stainless steel and copper vats next to the entrance, the brewpub’s wine menu is good at $5-7 a glass or $20-50 a bottle. The Longwood Brewpub is just off the Island Highway North at 5775 Turner Road in Longwood Station, not far from a TD Canada Trust branch. The restaurant is open Monday to Saturday from 11 am to 11 pm, Sunday 10 am to 10 pm (the bar stays open until midnight daily).
